Where Kathleen adores the minuette, the Ballet Russes and Crepes Suzette, well, Robin loves her rock and roll, a not-dog makes her lose control -- what a crazy pair!

Found on the Street

I still need to add several important items to this slide show, but I wanted to go ahead and link to it.

I thought I had lost my capacity to be amazed by what people discard on the streets of New York, or perhaps not discard but carefully pile up to be sorted through by others, sometimes with a friendly sign: Free! Help Yourself! It is an affluent town of small apartments, after all, and that imposes certain choices.

But the dragon's head we came across while walking Olive late Sunday night was in a class all by itself. It is, first, huge. Life size, I want to say. Carefully handmade, with a jaw that moves and a large stick that allows the user to carry it through the street in a parade that probably looks something like this. It was clearly a lot of work to make and was beautifully done. It has also been banged around a bit; it's seen some celebrations. And I had to wonder: why here, why now, throw your dragon's head away?

But times change. People have to move on. Perhaps the dragon's head no longer fit in their apartment, or in their understanding of what their life is. It's been a strange couple of weeks; I have the uneasy sense of history being made before my eyes, something I remember last from way back in 1989, half a lifetime ago.

Where Else I Have Been

Not much of a blog yet, but I am trying.

The Jane Austen Project

And how could Robin not post a single post about those Democrats invading her town? I ask you. How?
